To get you ready for August sign ups, let’s talk about ANDkids! The annual festival for the little ones runs from August 3rd to August 6th. So many films to choose from all over the world! From France and Germany to Mongolia and China to Uganda, there’s something even for us big kids! Here’s a look at this year’s selection:
Explore Galore August 3, 2016, 11:00 AM English, Spanish, Mandarin and German with English subtitles (live translation provided)
Adventures and a feast for the senses await you in this collection of wacky, sweet and silly animated films. Experiment with some mad scientists, dance across the kitchen counter with some sushi, trick some hungry dragons and dinosaurs, make a game out of cleaning up the house and discover the beautiful music of friendship.
Opposite Field (2014) August 3, 2016, 1:00 PM English and Lugandan with English subtitles
This inspiring documentary follows a group of Ugandan baseball players who defied the odds to become the first African team in history to make it to the Little League World Series.
The Outlaw League (2014) August 3, 2016, 3:00 PM French with English subtitles
A French-Canadian cross between The Bad News Bears and The Sandlot, this moving and inspiring film follows a boy and his grandfather, saddened by the recent death of a loved one, who come together to stop their cherished baseball diamond from being converted into a garbage dump.

From the makers of A Cat in Paris (an ANDkids favorite!) comes the story of Leo, a boy struggling with a terrible illness who discovers magical powers that allow him to leave his body and travel the streets of New York City. With these gifts, he aids a police officer in his efforts to foil a nefarious gangster.

In the tradition of The Little Rascals, Fiddlesticks follows a group of scrappy kindergartners who band together along with their ingenious pet coati to stop efforts by a mysterious company to move their town’s entire elderly population into nursing homes.

Set in a small town in 1930s Brazil, The Boy in the Mirror tells the story of Fernando, a ten-year-old with a penchant for invention and discovery. When a magical occurrence causes his mirror image to come to life, Fernando enlists his new twin to do all the things he doesn’t want to do (namely, going to school) while he leads a life of leisure and mischief.
April and the Extraordinary World (2015) August 4, 2016, 3:00 PM English language version
Paris, 1931 … a family of scientists on the brink of discovering a powerful longevity serum is suddenly abducted by a mysterious force, leaving their young daughter April behind. Talent Has Hunger (2016) August 6, 2016, 3:00 PM
Filmed over seven years, Talent Has Hunger offers a unique front row seat into the New England Conservatory studio of Paul Katz, Professor of Cello and former member of the Cleveland Quartet. Working with students as young as age 10, Katz uses many approaches and tools from his years of teaching to engage his students and elevate the sense of the possible in their performances.
