STAFF HIGHLIGHT: 2015 Staff Picnic

Things are a little slow on campus this month but they let us have a little fun, now and then. Last week the campus had its annual staff picnic. We wanted to share with you this picture of the DPAC team members that were in attendance. Yes, we ate a lot of food!

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT: Usher Recognition Ceremony and Dinner

It was great to see so many of you at the dinner last Tuesday. We all had a fun time and hope you enjoyed it too! I hope those who stayed also enjoyed the movie…even if you were surprised while watching it that it was indeed a musical!

Our Executive Director Anna had a great time at the dinner as well. She especially enjoyed hearing about your favorite performances of the past season!

Congratulations again to our ushers who were recognized for their hours of service.

For those of you who couldn’t make the dinner, The President’s Office sent Father Hesburgh Memorial Medallions for all the ushers as a thank you for your service to the University. If you don’t already have one please ask us at your next shift.

Thanks to all for bringing your side dishes. It definitely makes the dinner a real treat! Molly Gordon has been assembling the recipes for a booklet for everyone. If you haven’t already, please email her a recipe you’d like her to include at: msmollynd@gmail.com

We look forward to doing this again next year and we promise to have bigger plates!

As always, thanks so much for everything. The shows couldn’t go on without you!

…also thank you for pretending to laugh at Don’s jokes. He very much appreciates it!

TIP OF THE WEEK: Food and Drink in Venues

Laughing Irish last week gave us some jokesters who brought beer into the Leighton. We know it’s hard to catch this when patrons are being sneaky, so we ask all ushers, not just the door ushers, to be on the lookout for food and drink smugglers during future performances. As a reminder, only bottled water is allowed in the venues, except the Browning where concessions are welcomed to be consumed.

TIP OF THE WEEK: ANDkids World Film Festival coming soon!

Here is some info on ANDkids our Senior Associate Director Ted Barron wanted to share with you all:

We at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center are pleased to announce our lineup for the 2015 ANDkids World Film Festival! Now in its seventh year, ANDkids is the region’s signature summer film festival for kids of all ages. This cinema celebration features an entertaining, educational and diverse line-up of films from around the world. The festival will take place July 22-25, 2015 at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center at the University of Notre Dame.  All screenings and events are FREE and open to the general public.  See below for a complete listing of screenings and events. Tickets will also be available via our website beginning on Saturday, May 23:

As in years past, we are inviting children to participate in planning and presenting the festival.  We are looking for children volunteers to fill the following roles:

Film Reviewers – We are looking for kids to preview films selected for the festival, write reviews of 90-120 words and introduce films in front of a live audience.

Ushers – We are looking for kids to act as festival greeters and ushers.

Narrators – We are looking for kids to read aloud subtitles during screenings of international films with English subtitles.

If you know of any children who may be interested in filling any of these roles, please contact me at your earliest convenience so we can determine an appropriate assignment. Please include the names and ages of the children who would like to participate in the festival.  Also, please include what role the children would like to perform during the festival.

Filmmakers – In addition to these duties, we are once again seeking submissions of films made by kids in our community to include in the festival.  A running theme in many of the films we are presenting this year is friendship so we would love to see films which think about the value of friends.  Please keep film submissions under two minutes in duration.  If your film is selected, it will screen as part of our closing night festivities on Saturday, July 25!  For directions on how to upload your films, please contact us at ANDkids@nd.edu and we will be happy to assist you.  We would like to receive all submissions by June 15, 2015.

We encourage you to forward this email to anyone who may be interested in ANDkids.  Feel free to contact me directly with any questions about the festival.  We look forward to seeing you at the cinema!

Thank you!
